Wills & Estates Workshop

BC Aboriginal Land Managers Association (BCALM) is excited to announce that we will be holding a two-day Wills and Estates Workshop with Woodward and Company LLP at the River Rock Casino Resort, Richmond, BC on April 10-11, 2025. Travel day and check in day will be April 9, 2025 and Travel home day will be April 12, 2025.
Wills & Estates Workshop Description
Please join us for an informative and participatory workshop to teach land managers the necessities of wills and estate management to assist members. This workshop will cover topics such as: what makes a valid will under the Indian Act and the BC Wills Estates and Succession Act, how different land management regimes impact estate planning, what members need to know when writing a will, what happens when a member dies without a will, common issues in estate management for First Nations’ land managers, and the estate management tools to consider beyond a will. The workshop will be hosted in person to encourage discussion and create space for breakout sessions to engage with the content on a deeper and more personal level. We hope you can join us.

Location: River Rock Casino Resort (8811 River Road, Richmond, BC V6X 3P8)
Workshop Participants: Only 20 Participants will be accepted for this workshop. As space is limited only one representative per First Nation will be accepted.
What is covered by BCALM
- Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided April 10, 2025 & April 11, 2025.
- BCALM will book hotel rooms for participants and cover the costs for hotel room, taxes, deposit and hotel parking any other fees will be the responsibility of the participant.
- Participants will organize their own transportation and will be eligible to apply for reimbursement for travel costs for mileage, flights, commercial transportation, and meals that are not provided by BCALM during the workshop. Fill out the reimbursement form (receipts are required for reimbursements of commercial transportation, flights, accommodations, and parking). Maximum $3,000 per First Nation.

Deadline for Registration: March 26, 2025 for BCALM to book hotel rooms any registrations after this date will only be accepted upon hotel room availability.
Note: Please notify BCALM 24 Hours in advance if you are unable to attend the workshop/training or failure to do so will result in any costs incurred to BCALM to be invoiced accordingly and will solely be the responsibility of the participant.
