Indigenous Data Sovereignty Workshop

BCALM is hosting an Indigenous Data Sovereignty Workshop from May 22-23, 2024 at the River Rock Casino, Vancouver, BC (8811 River Rd, Richmond, BC, V6X 3P8). Travel day to the workshop will be May 21, 2024 and travel home day will be May 24, 2024.
Indigenous Data Sovereignty Workshop: Navigating the Data Landscape
The Indigenous Data Sovereignty Workshop: Navigating the Data Landscape is designed as a critical resource for First Nations staff engaged in data governance and data management initiatives. This workshop will equip participants with foundational knowledge and skills to effectively oversee community data. Key aspects of the workshop will focus on data sovereignty principles and practices, legal frameworks and policies, data governance models, digital maturity, data lifecycle management, and data management strategy development. The workshop will support participants to assert and maintain control over their data, ensuring it is used in a way that benefits and respects their community and culture.
When: May 22-23, 2024
Location: River Rock Casino, 8811 River Rd, Richmond, BC, V6X 3P8
Workshop Participants: A maximum of 40 Participants will be accepted for this workshop and is on a first come first serve basis.
What is covered by BCALM
BCALM will be responsible for booking of hotel rooms and hotel charges such as room, tax, deposit and parking. Any other hotel charges will be the responsibility of the participant.
Breakfast, Lunch, and snacks will be provided on May 22 and 23, 2024.
Participants are eligible to apply for reimbursement for travel costs for mileage, flights, commercial transportation, and meals that are not provided by BCALM during the workshop. Reimbursement Form attached (Receipts are required for reimbursements).

Please fill out the Workshop-Training registration form (attached) as soon as possible to confirm your attendance and return to Megan Nicholas, BCALM Administrative Assistant at admin@nalma.ca.
Deadline for Registration: May 17, 2024.
Note: Please notify BCALM 24 Hours in advance if you are unable to attend the workshop/training or failure to do so will result in any costs incurred to BCALM to be invoiced accordingly and will solely be the responsibility of the participant.
