BCALMA Training – Indigenous Stewardship, Cumulative Effects, and Environmental Accountability

Dear First Nations Land Professionals,

The British Columbia Aboriginal Land Managers Association(BCALMA) is pleased to invite you to participate in our Environmental Management Training, ‘Indigenous Stewardship, Cumulative Effects, and Environmental Accountability’, taking place on March 3-4, 2026, in Tseshaht First Nation [c̓išaaʔatḥ], Port Alberni, Vancouver Island.

This hands-on and practical training is part of BCALMA’s ongoing work with Dillon Consulting to develop a comprehensive Environmental Management Curriculum that supports Indigenous land managers in navigating today’s environmental management while upholding Indigenous laws, values, and stewardship principles.

Designed specifically for First Nations Land Managers, and Environment related departments, this session strengthens the connection between technical environmental knowledge and traditional Indigenous stewardship, with a strong focus on practical application, intergenerational responsibility, and decision-making grounded in community values.

• Environmental Stewardship and Indigenous governance: Water, Food Sovereignty, and Community Resilience
• Environmental Legislation: Navigating environmental and regulatory processes in BC
• Land Development and Decision Making: Environmental Review and Project Approval Processes
• Risk & Mitigation: Practical approaches to environmental risk assessment and mitigation
• Cumulative Effects and Impacts: Understanding Ecosystems & Pressures impacting BC lands and waters
• Tools & Technology: Practical applications for land and environmental management.

**Registration is not limited to one participant per First Nation; however, sponsorship is only available for up to $3,000 per First Nation. If your First Nation would like to register additional participants, please contact us at admin@bcalma.ca.
