SUMMARY:TALSAA Online Event - Braiding Knowledge Systems
DESCRIPTION:Braiding Knowledge Systems\nTuesday December 9\, 2025 \n12-2PM BC Time \nThe ‘Braiding Knowledge Systems: The Inclusion of Indigenous Knowledge in Conservation Strategies’ workshop will dive into how participants\, as stewards of the environment\, can effectively protect Canada’s diverse ecosystems while respecting the fundamental values of relationship\, partnership\, co-development\, and leadership that guide collaborative efforts for environmental initiatives\, respecting priorities of diverse partners and communities. \nEthical Space involves acting with a shared understanding that all knowledge\, legal\, and governance systems are legitimate and contain gifts\, and that no single system has more weight or legitimacy than another. Developed by Mi’kmaw Elder Albert Marshall\, Ethical Space is rooted in the understanding of colonial history and a nation-to-nation approach to relationship building. The Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER) operates and bases all project work on the Ethical Space approach and aims to bring Indigenous Knowledge and Western Science systems together to develop conservation mechanisms that support the future health of this country’s valuable natural features. \nCentre for Indigenous Environmental Resources \nCIER supports Indigenous people and communities to be leaders of positive environmental change\, using the best of Western and Indigenous knowledge to create a world that is in balance and supports the well-being of all living things. They are guided by the values of: Respect\, Integrity\, Innovation and Excellence\, Balance\, Diversity\, and Teamwork. \nCIER is Canada’s first Indigenous-directed environmental non-profit charitable organization and was founded in 1995 by eight First Nation Chiefs from across Canada. They determined the need to build capacity within Indigenous Communities so they could manage their environmental challenges by creating their own institutions and partnering with governments and other organizations. As a culturally diverse and collaborative organization\, CIER supports Indigenous peoples in building sustainable communities and protects lands\, waters and all living things. Since 1995 CIER has worked on 450 projects with over 300 Indigenous nations across Canada while also reaching into the United States. \nClick to Register: BRAIDING KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS: Indigenous Knowledge in Conservation – Fill out form
