SUMMARY:Lands Management 101 - Virtual Training Series
DESCRIPTION:September 10 – December 3\, 2026\nThursdays | 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. | Virtual \nRegistration is open for BCALMA’s Lands Management 101 Training Program. \nDeveloped in partnership with Quinseenum Lands Inc.\, this eight-session virtual training series provides a practical introduction to First Nations land management and the processes\, tools\, and responsibilities that support day-to-day work in a Lands Office. \nThe program is designed for current and future lands professionals and can also support staff working in related areas such as environmental management\, housing\, economic development\, administration\, and community planning. \nWhat You’ll Learn\nAcross eight interactive sessions\, participants will build foundational knowledge and practical skills in: \n\nReserve land management\nIndividual land holdings\nLeases and permits\nIndian Lands Registry System (ILRS)\nGoogle Earth mapping\nEncumbrance checks\nWills and estates\nLand designations\n\nParticipants will learn from Quinseenum Lands Inc.\, a family-owned Indigenous business bringing more than 40 years of combined experience in First Nations lands governance and management. \nCertificate of Completion\nParticipants who complete at least six of the eight sessions will receive a Certificate of Completion. \nThe series is currently underway and registration remains open for upcoming sessions. \nTraining Details\nDates: September 10 – December 3\, 2026\nTime: Thursdays\, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.\nFormat: Virtual \nREGISTER FOR LANDS MANAGEMENT 101 \nJoin us for practical learning\, shared knowledge\, and opportunities to connect with other First Nations lands professionals from across BC.\nFor more information or assistance with registration\, contact BCALMA Admin at admin@bcalma.ca or Valerie Sam at valerie.sam@bcalma.ca.

Through shared learning\, practical tools\, and conversation\, participants will explore environmental management and Indigenous stewardship using the Environmental Management Training Manual developed by BCALMA in partnership with Dillon Consulting. \nThe training brings together technical knowledge and practical approaches grounded in Indigenous stewardship\, laws\, values\, and community priorities. \nWorkshop Highlights \n\nExplore the Environmental Management Manual in depth\nLearn practical approaches to environmental planning and management\nGain technical knowledge from experienced professionals\nConnect with peers and share experiences\nStrengthen environmental management capacity within your Nation\n\nREGISTER HEREThree-Day Training at a Glance \nDay 1 | Wednesday\, October 21\nStewardship\, Governance & Environmental Foundations \nExplore Indigenous stewardship and governance\, environmental legislation and regulatory processes\, water security\, biodiversity\, and food sovereignty through presentations\, discussion\, and shared learning. \nDay 2 | Thursday\, October 22\nEnvironmental Management in Practice\nBuild practical knowledge in waste management\, contaminated sites\, emergency preparedness and climate readiness\, environmental risk\, project decision-making\, and tools and technology for lands and environmental management. \nDay 3 | Friday\, October 23\nCumulative Effects & Land-Based Learning\nExplore cumulative effects through guest presentations and land-based learning that connects concepts from the Environmental Management Manual with environmental change\, cumulative pressures on lands and waters\, stewardship responsibilities\, and community-informed decision-making. \nThe final day provides an opportunity to learn through observation\, discussion\, and shared experience on the land\, connecting the training with practical approaches to environmental management. \nSupporting Indigenous stewardship through knowledge\, collaboration\, and practical tools. \nTravel Information\nBCALMA Member Travel Sponsorship: BCALMA members are eligible for travel sponsorship of up to $1\,500 per First Nation. More than one participant from a First Nation may register; however\, the maximum travel sponsorship available is $1\,500 per First Nation. DESCRIPTION:The Canadian Space Agency (CSA)\, on behalf of the federal departments involved in the development of the Canadian Satellite Earth Observation (OTS) Strategy\, is pleased to announce that it will host the fourth National Earth Observation (EO) Forum\, to be held on 26\, 27 and 28 October 2026.
